Questions
Is CLC for you?
Question: What are the beliefs expressed at the co-op
CLC is committed to presenting its classes from a Christian perspective. As a co-op we try to avoid doctrinal issues that tend towards division and we try to create opportunities for parents to discuss what their beliefs are with their student. Many of the textbooks are written from a Christian perspective and in class a Christian perspective will be taken if a student asks questions.
Question: Our family likes to take many vacations during the school year to take advantage of the off rates etc.
If you like to take vacations or like a very flexible schedule, CLC is not for you. Although we cater to primarily the homeschool community, our program has a fairly rigid structure and does not lend itself to a flexible schedule. Students that miss classes pay a heavy cost in order to make up the work and can cause a lot of stress on the student and the family.
Question: My child doesn't really like science and math.
If your student does not like science an math, it is possible that they will not like CLC. At CLC we have focused on creating aggressive Math and Science classes designed to prepare a student to go on in college in the Math and Sciences. If your student does not like math and science, there are other programs that might better suit a student that has a bent more towards liberal arts.
Question: My child doesn't like to read or struggles with reading.
CLC's english and history classes have a significant amount of reading and writing associated with them. If your student doesn't like to read, you may find yourself in a weekly battle. If you have a weak reader I suggest you contact the CLC administrator to help you place your student in a class where they might be able to grow into reading at a level where they will be successful.
Question: I like to be finished homeschooling by noon so that I can do other activities.
If you like to finish your day early so that you can do other things in the afternoon, CLC may not be for you. Each class has daily homestudy that should take up a significant time of their day. The amount of time it takes up greatly depends on the diligence, organization, and ability of the student. Some students may be able to accomplish the work by noon each day, others may take well into the evening.
Question: I a full time job and do not have a lot of time to help with the homestudies
Although not impossible, it is difficult to homeschool while both parents hold full time jobs. CLC can sometimes help with a framework for your student to work independently. Sometimes there are families that can come along side you and help by keeping your student and assisting with their work.
Note: When taking a CLC class we have tried to provide everything the student and parent need to be successful. We have now added a 2nd day in some of the more difficult classes. However, if your student is struggling, it is still your responsibility as a homeschooling parent to come along side the student and do whatever it takes for them to be successful. CLC teachers will assist you to the best of their ability, but outside assistance may become necessary.
