Born and raised in Virginia, my family’s roots go back many generations in this great state. In 1775, my great grandfather (5X) served in the Revolutionary War with Col. Stephen’s Regiment of Minute Men in Fauquier County. My great grandmother, Mary Foushee, was a First Family of Virginia member. My father grew up in a house called Wheatdale, which was used as a union hospital during the Civil War in Culpeper, VA. I’ve lived in Loudoun County for eight years and have had a lifelong interest in Virginia History. I’m married with four children and have home schooled for the last eleven years. After graduating from James Madison University with a degree in Communications, I went to Gallaudet University for two years to learn sign language and taught with the Fairfax County Adult Ed program. Most recently, I taught 5th and 6th grade geography with CLC.
On spiritual side, I grew up in a church, but understood and accepted Christ as my Savior when I was thirty years old. My goal for your child would be for them to gain a love of learning about Virginia and to see God’s hand throughout the history of the state. I hope to go on three or four field trips; one to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, and local ones such as Mt. Vernon, Sully Plantation, and possibly to a Civil War reenactment. We will take notes, play games, and eat what the colonists ate. Your child will get a passport stamped every time they visit a Virginia historical site, and at the end of the year they should have a comprehensive notebook to keep.
I’m looking forward to getting to know your children. See you in the fall!
