As a graduate student I taught dendrology (plant identification) to undergraduate students and later Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Upon graduation I got a job as an engineer in Northern Virginia with TASC (now Northrup Grummen). I worked on many things there among them training, systems engineering, programming, database development, and GIS.
My first child finally arrived in 1995. I wasn't able to keep my self at home however, I joined a MOPS group and did many things for them including craft coordinator, registration, discussion group leader, and consignment sale coordinator. Other children followed in 1997 and 2000.
As my first child approached school age, I decided to home school him. We took each year as it went, but have been home schooling ever since.
In 2002, Dona and I got together and decided to start a co-op. The rest is history.
This year I took on my first class. I taught Elementary Chemistry. I had to dredge up all those college chemistry classes. I loved it so much, I decided to tackle a second class, Life Science. I will finally be able to put all that biology and ecology to use.
My goal as a teacher is to help students with many aspects in addition to just the actual learning of the material. I try to help them take notes in class, take notes in reading, take tests more effectively, and use the information that they have learning in a practical manor. I look forward to getting to know your student and watching them learn and understand more than they thought they could.
