Course Description

Writing, Grammar and Literature are an important part of your student’s education.  It is our desire, as a co-op, to put your child in the class that best suits their education and training to date.  There are 4 English classes designed to give your student a strong foundation on grammar, writing, vocabulary, and literature.

In English 2, students transition from writing a single strong paragraph to writing 5 paragraph essays.  They will explore the different kinds of essays, with a focus on expository writing that exposes, puts, forth, explains, reveals, or exhibits in detail in order to become more familiar with each type. The class will concentrate on organization and content. By the time yours student leaves this class, they should be very comfortable writing a 5 paragraph essay every week  In grammar, students will continue to solidify grammatical concepts, learn additional parts of speech, alternate sentence formats, and punctuation moving into a focus on the style and mechanics of their writing. Finally, students will continue to explore literary concepts and applications as they read literature. Students will also be introduced to the idea of expressing their literary opinion in written form as well as the format of and the writing of a short research paper.  They will use the MLA style whose guidelines can be found online.

If you have not taken English 1 or did not receive teacher approval to take English 2, you will need to submit a writing, grammar, and literature sample.  Below is the link to the English 2

After English 2, students progress to English 3,  and English 4.  In the future we hope to have an English and British Literature class and AP English.
