Literature Thru History - 6th Grade
Welcome to the 6th grade Literature through History Class.
In this course we will read four quality literary works in a chronological manner covering the following time periods: Ancient Israel, Medieval Times, and Pre-Revolutionary Days, and the American Civil War.
We will make history come alive through an integrated approach of literature by promoting active learning and engaging the student. As we study each novel, we hope to get the feel for the hearts and minds of the people of that particular time period. Moreover exploring the cultures and traditions of the people will enhance our understanding of the past.
Comprehension is assessed through questions/answer worksheets, vocabulary studies, classroom discussions, research and writing assignments and many hands-on activities. Tests will be given at the end of every book.
The students will be able to identify and demonstrate an understanding of the story elements for example, the plot, theme, character, mood, foreshadowing, point-of-view, irony and conflict. We will also be examining literary techniques, such as figurative language, dialogue, imagery, and alliteration.
Finally, at the end of every quarter, all of the students’ papers will be assembled into a lap book portfolio.
